Frequently Asked Questions
What is Clubs Boost Immunity?

Clubs Boost Immunity (CBI) is an online education platform designed for BGC Canada. The platform is based on Kids Boost Immunity (KBI), an online resource launched in 2018 and developed by teachers and health professionals to engage digital-age students in grades 4 to 12.

Club members participate in activities in science, social sciences, health, critical thinking, and identifying misinformation and disinformation. After completing activities online, members answer quizzes to test their knowledge retention. If they’re successful, they earn lifesaving vaccines which are donated to children in need through UNICEF Canada.

Program staff choose which level their team is assigned to - Level 1 (proposed ages 7 to 9) or Level 2 (proposed ages 10 to 12).

Program staff, or team leaders, take members as a group through the activities and quizzes on CBI. Teams earn one vaccine collectively for each activity quiz question answered correctly.

How is this different from Kids Boost Immunity or I Boost Immunity?

Clubs Boost Immunity is based on sister sites Kids Boost Immunity (KBI) and I Boost Immunity (IBI), which use online quizzes to raise literacy about immunization.  While CBI is geared to BGC Canada, KBI is tailored for teachers and their classrooms, and IBI’s primary target is adults.

How do quizzes work?

Club members complete CBI activities as a group, facilitated by the team leader. Please note that members don’t sign up individually on CBI.

At the end of each activity, there will be a quiz. For each question the team collectively answers correctly, it will earn one vaccine for UNICEF Canada that will help save lives. If some questions aren’t answered correctly, the team can keep trying until it gets the right answer.

Once the team has completed all the activities on the site the team leader has selected, it can complete the Give us your feedback quiz at the bottom of the Activities section. The group can earn one vaccine for completing the Give us your feedback quiz. This final evaluation quiz provides us with very valuable information in terms of member learning for our CBI program evaluation, and this information can be shared with clubs that are interested in the platform. This information will also help CBI develop content that meets the interests and learning needs of club members.

What are Leaderboards?

Leaderboards are a way to see how your team is doing in comparison to other clubs. They list the clubs and teams in order of specific criteria; for example, the number of vaccines earned or questions answered. It’s a fun way to compete anonymously with other BGC Canada clubs.

What vaccines are we buying for other children?

Clubs Boost Immunity directly purchases tetanus, polio, and measles vaccines through UNICEF, for children and youth in countries that need them.

Can we trust the information on the CBI website?

CBI is dedicated to bringing current, accurate, reliable, and accessible information to children and youth using digital technology. Our team consists of healthcare professionals, teachers, and researchers. Follow this link to the Who we are page for more information: https://clubsboostimmunity.com/about/who-we-are.

What information do you require from club leaders?

The privacy of club leaders is of utmost importance at CBI. While we do require leaders to provide some information in order to prevent fraudulent accounts, we don’t require or store any personal/identifiable information about club members. Our Privacy Policy is available on the site. Follow this link for more information: https://clubsboostimmunity.com/privacy-policy.

As a club leader, why do you need my email? How will it be used?

We require club leaders to provide some information in order to prevent fraudulent accounts. Your email is a unique identifier that is not visible to any other user on the CBI site, including the club members you add to your team. Please register using your BGC Canada email as it helps verify that you’re a club leader.

What happens if several leaders at the same club want to use CBI?

Each club leader needs to register with a unique email address, and each leader can then sign up their club members as a team. The same club leader can sign up several teams if they have more than one group. There is no issue with multiple program staff from the same club registering and having teams on CBI.

Why can’t kids register by themselves to do the quizzes?

CBI is designed to be used within a club setting. This is both to protect the privacy of club members and to facilitate group learning.

Is CBI free?

All of the resources, activities, and quizzes on CBI are available for club leaders and members entirely free of charge. CBI is supported by funding from public and private partners for costs associated with maintaining and promoting the online platform, developing educational content, and purchasing vaccines through UNICEF Canada.

Is Clubs Boost Immunity available to use throughout the year?

The online platform is available throughout the year. However, there is additional technical support available from September to June for clubs and club leaders.

What vaccines are donated to UNICEF?

Clubs Boost Immunity directly purchases tetanus, polio, and measles vaccines through UNICEF Canada. The goal is to increase the availability of vaccines in countries least able to pay.

Shouldn't you just give vaccines away anyway?

Great question! As a government-funded public health initiative, our mandate is not tied to UNICEF. Our mandate is to educate and inform children and youth about critical thinking, public health, and the dangers of bad science. We buy vaccines as part of the incentive for club members to learn more about immunization and other related topics. Think of it as a matching donation—we are matching a member’s effort to learn with a vaccine donation to UNICEF. It's a win-win-win!

How many vaccines have been donated from CBI to UNICEF so far?

There is a vaccine counter on the site that keeps track in real time of how many vaccines are being earned!

Who can be a CBI partner?

KBI does not accept funding from tobacco or alcohol companies, or any business harmful to the health of children or youth. Public and private partners are recognized on the CBI website. Private partners are not part of content decisions, and they are not able to influence the choice of vaccines purchased through UNICEF. Follow this link for more information about How we're fundedhttps://clubsboostimmunity.com/about/how-were-funded.

Is there a French version?

Clubs Boost Immunity is currently available in English only. With further funding support, we’ll begin the process of translating the site and making it available in French.

I’d like to cancel/delete my account. How do I do that?
