Who we are

Clubs Boost Immunity (CBI) is a non-profit Canadian education initiative made possible through a collaboration between BGC Canada and the Public Health Association of BC (PHABC).

CBI is an online education platform for children and youth designed explicitly for BGC Canada. It's based on an adaption of an existing PHABC digital education resource for schools launched in 2018 called Kids Boost Immunity (KBI). In 2022, about 30 clubs of BGC Canada pilot-tested CBI with their members.

Who pays for the vaccines?

The cost of vaccines is funded through BGC Canada.

Why not just donate vaccines to UNICEF?

As a government-funded public health initiative, our mandate is not tied to UNICEF. Our mandate is to educate and inform children and youth about science and vaccines, social issues related to health and global inequality, critical thinking, and the dangers of online misinformation. We buy vaccines as part of the incentive for club members to learn more about immunization and other related topics. Think of it as a matching donation - we are matching a member’s effort to learn with a vaccine donation to UNICEF. It's a win-win-win!

Editorial and content policy

CBI is dedicated to posting accurate, up-to-date, and well-researched information for program staff and club members. Content is created and reviewed based on the credibility of the original sources and the objectivity of the findings.

All content on the site is read and signed off by a minimum of three people, consisting of:

  • An education professional
  • A staff member from the BCCDC or the PHABC
  • An experienced clinician with relevant expertise (for example, a registered nurse, physician, or professor)

By doing so, we are able to curate and create content that is accurate and engaging. We also guarantee that the content is created independently of any funding partners.

Please note that content on CBI should not be used as a replacement for medical advice from a healthcare professional. For medical advice, we encourage you to speak to your local healthcare professionals.
