Top Investigators (Level 2)

This activity module aims to build children's awareness and understanding of critical thinking through investigative games and activities. The learning objectives are to develop investigative skills using the TRAAP checklist to explore how and when they are used in a story and demonstrate how to formulate questions, use deductive skills, and analyze information.

 

Aim: Children learn how to evaluate information for timeliness, relevance, expertise of the author, accuracy, and purpose.

Ignite interest – engage kids in conversation about how investigators are great at asking questions, thinking critically, and evaluating information. We will be learning how to be good information investigators using the TRAAP checklist.

Time: 25-30 minutes

 

Aim: Children use the TRAAP Investigation tool to evaluate some information they are given.

Ignite interest – engage kids in conversation about how investigators listen well to identify which TRAAP component a piece of a story is related to.

Time: 20-25 minutes

 

Aim: Children learn how to develop TRAAP-focused questions to help them evaluate the information.

Ignite interest – engage kids in conversation about how T-R-A-A-P provides a checklist to investigate information like a story or a website, in a critical way.

Time: 20-25 minutes

 

Aim: This concentration game requires that each student translate the elements of the story into pictures.

Ignite interest – engage kids in conversation about how investigators look for clues.

Time: 20-25 minutes
