Heroes Know About the Hummingbird's Vaccine (Level 1)

This activity module aims for children to learn about a First Nations Indigenous story related to vaccination. The learning objectives are to have children learn from the messages conveyed by a FIrst Nations Indigenous storyteller and to have children respond to artistic and audial components of The Hummingbird Vaccine story.

 

Aim: Children experience and respond to Indigenous storytelling.

Ignite interest – engage kids in conversation about how Indigenous storytelling is an important part of cultural heritage.

Time: 5 minutes

 

Aim: Children experience and respond to Indigenous storytelling.

Ignite interest – engage kids in conversation about the Hummingbird Vaccine story around the main animal characters that create the problem in the story.

Time: 10 minutes

 

Aim: Children experience and respond to Indigenous storytelling.

Ignite interest – engage kids in conversation about how we can calm ourselves when we are reading stories that have sad parts to them, as is the case with the Hummingbird Vaccine story.

Time: 10-15 minutes

 

Aim: Children experience and respond to Indigenous storytelling.

Ignite interest – engage kids in conversation about how the Hummingbird Vaccine story has key characters and purpose to the story.

Time: 10-15 minutes
