Heroes Are Good Investigators (Level 1)
This activity module aims to build children's awareness and understanding of critical thinking through investigative games and activities. The learning objectives are to develop investigative skills using the Five Ws to explore how and when they are used in a story and demonstrate how to formulate questions, use deductive skills, and analyze information.
Aim: Children learn to develop questioning skills.
Ignite interest – engage kids in conversation about how investigators are great at asking questions. We will be learning how to be good at questioning using the five W’s.
Time: 20-25 minutes
Aim: Children learn to follow directions.
Ignite interest – engage kids in conversation about how investigators listen well and follow directions based on what they hear from others.
Time: 15-20 minutes
Aim: This concentration game requires that each student translate the elements of the story into pictures.
Ignite interest – engage kids in conversation about how investigators look for clues.
Time: 20-25 minutes
Aim: This sorting game requires that each student organize pictures of animals into places they live (hot, warm, cold).
Ignite interest – engage kids in conversation about how investigators have a lot of information they have to sort through.
Time: 20-25 minutes
